Ignorance – by Devious (Mario van Rooy / born 1977 - died 2004)

Ek stiek uit soes ʼn cameleon

Ek’s nou hie langs jou – dan’s ek somme binnen jou TV in
ʼn verkleure mannetjie - in verkere company in

As ʼn laaitie – toe djy my verloor het
Het jou tanie jou hard geslat met die belt… deer my –

…want ek is Geld.

Nou net as djy check djy’t my uitgefigure sê ek :- haaties!

Ek sê: As djy aan daai ding vat, djy invat – by paaties!
Ek is daai ding - wat ʼn vibe bring.
Ek lat jou verbeel djy kan kwaai sing - I can even make you cry vrin !
Of Engels praat en dit afbriek -
Ek is die rede hoekom djy die law wil ʼn kaat skiet
Ek is die rede hoeko djy Sondag oggenne laat tiep
Ma met daai asem sal djy rit tie maakie!
Kyk hiesa, - ek is die alcoholic se supper, lunch en brekvis
As djy jou motjie klap - sal djy vir my blame - Ek lat die pyn verdwyn –

…want ek is Wyn.

En daai sie allie - ek is ʼn tool van oppression -

In die form van die chemical warfare experiment
Ek is Wouter Basson se blêrrie kindt!

Ek laat jou omkap – as ek jou long vat – slat ek jou sopnat
En djy kuil jou sopnat as djy die grond vat !
Ek, is ʼn methakoloon - Ek dra die ghetto se kroon
Ek is ʼn gangster se droem ! Hulle meng my met boem!

...Ek is ’n Button.

…but I can change into ʼn flyt – Ek sê Hallo dinges, hoe lyk djy vir my?!
kyk hie, sy sie eens n mens sie man - sy’s net ʼn myt
Ek is die rede hoekom djy haa wil gryp – innie ronte ruk

en rape!

Ek is Geld, Buttons, Wyn en Rape.

Pons aan my fingerprints – Ek is Ignorance

Ek maak jou dom – ek maak jou dwaas
Ek maak lat djy alles miskyk - Terwyl ek vir jou glaas
Ek maak jou dom – ek maak jou dwaas
Ek maak lat djy alles miskyk - Terwyl ek vir jou glaas - vir jou glaas - vir jou glaas…..

Next, the music video Life's no Metaphor, is by the talented Cape Flats artist "BlaqPearl" . It is about the difficulties of growing up on the Flats and the need to survive.... a metaphor can represent meaning in another person mind but cannot be a substitute for real life and experience.

(BlaqPearl is: Janine van Rooy - sister of Mario van Rooy who wrote the poem above)  ...video producer: the Real Rozanno

 7 Seconds:

Boul ma sene, boul ma guiss madi re nga fokni mane
Khamouma li neka thi sama souf ak thi guinaw
Beugouma kouma khol oaldine yaw li neka si yaw
mo ne si man, li ne si mane moye dilene diapale

Roughneck and rudeness,
We should be using, on the ones who practice wicked charms

For the sword and the stone
Bad to the bone
Battle is not over
Even when it's won
And when a child is born into this world
It has no concept
Of the tone the skin is living in

It's not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting
It's not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting, I'll be waiting, I'll be waiting

Changer

7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting
It's not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting, I'll be waiting, I'll be waiting, I'll be waiting
And when a child is born into this world
It has no concept
Of the tone the skin is living in
And there's a million voices
And there's a million voices
To tell you what she should be thinking
So you better sober up for just a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting
It's not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting
It's not a second
7 seconds away

  Rough Translation:

Don't see me from a distance
Don't look at my smile
And think that I don't know
What's under and behind me
I don't want you to look at me and think
What's in you is me
What's in me is to help them

I assume the reasons that push us to change everything
I would like us to forget about their color
So they can be optimistic
Too many views on rave that make them desperate
Let's leave the doors wide open
So they can talk about the pain and joy
Then we can give them information
That will bring us all together

Chorus:
It's not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting
